DraftKings also has a variety of MLB betting promos available. For new customers, the sportsbook matches 20% of your initial deposit in bonus bets, up to $1,000. There is also the MLB Stepped Up SGP, which boosts your profits on qualifying same game parlay wagers.

DraftKings has earned wide acclaim due to its top-notch baseball fan experience, along with its low deposit threshold. While other platforms have higher minimums, you can start wagering at DraftKings with just $5.

bet365

As of now, the platform is available in the states of New Jersey, Colorado, Ohio, Iowa, and Virginia, where new bettors are eligible for a lucrative welcome bonus. If you bet $1 on bet365, you will receive $200 in bet credits, regardless of whether you win or lose your initial bet.

Bet365 has specific promotions that are tailored towards MLB bettors. The top one is the Baseball Early Payout Offer. If you place a pregame moneyline bet on any MLB game, and your team gains a lead of five runs or more at any point in the game, bet365 will honor your bet as a winner and pay it in full. If your bet was combined in a parlay, it will be marked as successful, and the outcome of your parlay will depend on your other bets. This promo not only applies to MLB, but can be extended to the Japanese and Korean baseball leagues, so if you are a fan of international baseball, knock yourself out!

Factors to Consider When Choosing an MLB Betting Site

Since legal reform made it possible for sportsbooks to legally operate in the United States, companies that had a presence in different sectors–such as casinos, daily fantasy sports, and sports media–made it their goal to enter the market and become the  sportsbook of choice for baseball bettors nationwide.

If you are wondering which site to choose for your MLB bets, know that at Lines, we highly recommend that you shop around for the best sportsbook. Since there are many factors that we consider when evaluating bookmakers, you need to decide which of those are the ones that matter most to you.

We look at sportsbooks holistically, so you can make an informed decision. Browsing around different platforms will help you stay on top of the best odds, and in the long run, this can make a difference in your profitability as a bettor.

Reputation and Licensing

When choosing a sportsbook, reputation and licensing are two crucial factors to consider, as they help determine whether a sportsbook is reliable, trustworthy and in legal compliance.

We prefer sportsbooks that are known for their integrity, fairness, and timeliness. The guidelines here are clear: we only work with sportsbooks that honor payouts, promptly process payments, and have more positive reviews than negative. While we understand that it is impossible to control the experience of every user and that there will always be clients who complain, the best sportsbooks will still garner praise and build a loyal user base.

Then, there is the legality question. As the number of online bettors keeps growing, many platforms that have not been granted approval to operate in the United States might still be targeting viewers and bettors with advertisements offering deals and exclusive promotions. However, to protect your integrity and legal standing, we suggest that you only use platforms that have been legally authorized to operate in your jurisdiction. If you are not sure what the status of sports betting is in your state, check out this guide

Even platforms that have been granted permission to take bets in the United States are not allowed to solicit customers in every state in which sports betting is legal. Some states have bet-specific restrictions, such as forbidding wagers on collegiate athletes or in-state university teams.

Range of Betting Markets

Something that we highly recommend at Lines is choosing a sportsbook that can match the level of detail with which you would like to place your wager.

When we were describing the best sportsbooks for MLB betting, you were able to see that some baseball wagers can be extremely thorough, going down to the outcome of the next pitch. If this is the type of bet that you are interested in, make sure the markets you are looking for are available. On the other hand, if you are planning on placing the most common wagers–like the moneyline, run line, or total–then most sportsbooks will be able to cater to you.

Also, there are sportsbooks that go beyond MLB. As mentioned, bet365 even goes as far as applying bonuses to the Japanese and Korean baseball leagues. It often happens that many stars from these international competitions end up playing for some of the top teams in America, so getting to know what is going on internationally is useful.

Competitive Odds and Lines

Before you decide on a baseball sportsbook, make sure you consider the competitiveness of their odds and lines. These directly impact the potential profitability of your wagers.

In their quest to increase their allure to more customers, sportsbooks are going as far as making sacrifices on their fees in order to be appealing to more bettors. For example, WynnBET has a special initiative called Thursday Win Hour. Through the promotion, bettors that place their wagers within the specified hours on a Thursday will be able to access improved odds.

Again, we highly recommend shopping around for the best betting odds. It is almost impossible that only one sportsbook will have the best odds all the time. And even though it might seem like a slight difference, over time, it can add up to a substantial improvement in your profitability as a bettor.

User Interface and Experience

Betting should be fun and easy. We value sportsbooks that provide bettors with a seamless user experience. Both the mobile app and the web platform need to be user-friendly enough for anyone to quickly learn the navigation. Not everyone is tech-savvy, so good sportsbooks should display information clearly and transparently, allowing any new user to intuitively place their bets and navigate through the different betting markets and promotions.

Bonuses and Promotions

Loading DraftKings Sportsbook Banner...

Every sportsbook that is legally authorized to operate in the United States has some sort of welcome bonus or promotion, whether it is a deposit match, a risk-free bet, or a second-chance bet.

For example, FanDuel offers a $1,000 No Sweat First Bet Bonus, in which they refund your first stake in case it is not a winner. BetMGM does the same, and Caesars Sportsbook takes it even further, reimbursing up to $1,250 for bettors who are not lucky in their first wager. Usually these are awarded as bonus bets, which means that you cannot withdraw it as cash, but can put it toward new bets.

Other bonuses include loyalty programs (for example, Caesars Rewards and MGM Rewards), and promotional offers such as odds boosts, which increase your potential payout on a wager. As you find your way through different sportsbooks, you might find that they offer odds boosts for specific events to incentivize betting activity. In MLB, you can expect to see plenty of available bonuses as the World Series gets closer.

Deposits and Withdrawals

Nobody likes experiencing delays when receiving their payout after winning a bet or facing difficulties when making a deposit into their betting accounts. Since this is a defining criterion for bettors, sportsbooks have prioritized speed and agility in payments as one of their top features, recognizing the importance of offering multiple deposit and withdrawal options to accommodate user preferences.

Before creating an account with a specific sportsbook, verify that they offer the payment method that suits you best. Commonly accepted options include credit and debit cards, bank transfers, digital wallets like PayPal and Venmo, and prepaid cards. Some sportsbooks also give the option of conducting operations in cash at one of their physical locations.

Sportsbooks typically list their estimated processing times for both deposits and withdrawals. We strongly advise that you review these before signing up, and that you stay away from those bookmakers that have excessively restrictive withdrawal policies or long processing times.

Especially if you plan on betting large amounts of money, payout limits are something to take a look at. Some sportsbooks limit the amount of money that you can win on a particular bet or within a specific time period, and also, how much they can pay out.

Customer Support

Customer support is something that sportsbooks need to take very seriously, as it plays a key role in ensuring a positive and engaging betting experience.

The first thing to look at in terms of customer support is the channels that the sportsbook can be reached through. Those that have the best online customer support have a 24/7 live chat feature, as this enables them to promptly address any issues you might have.

We consider it valuable when a company has several channels to handle inbound requests. For example, if you have any problems with your account, a customer support number that you can call is handy.

A sportsbook that makes it a priority to offer top-notch customer support will also optimize its response time. As a customer, waiting for extended periods of time is frustrating and harms the overall betting experience. When issues arise, a good sportsbook is able to provide a swift resolution.

Commitment to Responsible Gaming

For several reasons, responsible gaming is an essential feature of a sportsbook, and a way in which betting enterprises demonstrate their commitment to the community.

By offering mechanisms such as self-exclusion and deposit limits, sportsbooks protect their customers and promote responsible behavior. By doing this, they build long-term customer relationships, minimize harm, and create a positive image for the betting industry.

Types of Baseball Bets Allowed

For new baseball enthusiasts and seasoned bettors alike, there are several betting markets to choose from. Here, we explain some of the most popular ones, so that you can consider them for your next bet.

Moneyline

In baseball, as in every sport, the moneyline is one of the most popular bets.

For a moneyline bet to win, you need to correctly predict the winner of a particular game. The margin is irrelevant.

There are many scenarios in which the moneyline is an attractive bet. One of them is by spotting the underdog that will pull off the next upset.

For example, if the Atlanta Braves, one of the top contenders to win the 2023 World Series, play the Washington Nationals, an underperforming squad, a bet on the Nationals is likely to yield an attractive payout.

Run Lines

The spread, which in baseball is also known as the run line, is the way in which the sportsbook levels the odds for both teams.

Let’s say that the Tampa Bay Rays are facing the San Diego Padres. A moneyline bet on the Rays might display significantly negative odds, potentially -300.

With the run line, the bet would look like this:

  • Tampa Bay Rays, -1.5 runs, -110
  • San Diego Padres, +1.5 runs, -110

For a run line wager on the Rays to be a winner, the team would need to win by at least two runs. Conversely, a wager on the San Diego Padres could still be successful even if the Padres lose the game, as long as they’re within one run.

Over/Under (Totals)

Also known as a total bet, by wagering on the over/under line you are predicting whether the number of runs scored in the game will be above or below a certain number determined by the sportsbook.

Let’s say the Kansas City Royals are playing the Colorado Rockies. The total is set at 8.5 runs. If you bet on the over, both teams need to combine for at least nine runs for your wager to be marked as a winner.

Futures

A futures bet is a type of bet through which you can anticipate the outcome of a distant event.

For example, when betting on the MLB, you can predict:

  • Which team will win the World Series?
  • Who will be the Most Valuable Player?
  • Who will be the Rookie of the Year?

Something that makes futures an exciting proposition is that you can place the bet before the season even starts. If you do this, you are likely to find attractive odds.

Of course, once the season is underway, you are also able to place MLB futures wagers. The odds will fluctuate depending on how teams progress through the season.

Props Bets

Prop bets allow bettors to predict specific outcomes within a game. Through props bets, bettors can wager on individual player performances, team statistics, and even unique occurrences during the game.

MLB prop bets include which team will score first, how many hits a certain player will record, and how many strikeouts a pitcher will have.

Some sportsbooks like to offer very detailed prop bets, and with the rise of live betting, you can even wager on the outcome of the next play. Shop around and find the prop bets that speak more to you, especially if you plan on watching the game.

Parlays

A parlay is a bet where you combine multiple individual wagers into one.

For a parlay to be a winner, every bet must be successful. If one leg loses, the entire parlay is graded as a loss. The main advantage of a parlay is that it gives you the potential for a higher payout.

In a parlay, you can combine practically any bet, except for those wagers that have contradictory outcomes. For example, you cannot bet on the Boston Red Sox to win and lose in the same parlay, for obvious reasons.

Even though parlays initially combined outcomes from different games–for example, the Astros defeating the Angels and the Marlins winning against the Mets–now, sportsbooks have heavily invested in developing the same game parlay modality.

Through a same game parlay, you can combine two outcomes that will happen in one game. If the Yankees are facing the Red Sox, you can combine the Yankees to win on the moneyline and Aaron Judge to hit a home run in the same bet.

MLB Betting Odds

We’ve covered some of the main MLB betting markets and how they work. We’ve also mentioned which ones tend to have the best payout rates.

Now, it is critical that you fully understand the odds. For you to be successful as a baseball bettor, you must become fluent in how odds are determined.

If you are in the United States, most likely, you are looking at a dashboard that is displaying American odds. This is one of three formats in which sportsbooks display their odds, the other two being decimal odds and fractional odds.

American odds list the outcomes that are most likely to happen (favorites) with negative odds. Underdogs are listed with positive odds.

To help you estimate your winnings with American odds, these formulas are useful. As a note, when using the formula for negative odds, leave the minus sign aside.

  • Payout with negative American odds = (100/Odds)*Wager
  • Payout with positive American odds = (Odds/100)*Wager

To explain further, here is an example...

The Philadelphia Phillies are facing the Chicago Cubs, and you have wagered $50 on the Phillies.

The moneyline odds are:

  • Philadelphia Phillies, -140
  • Chicago Cubs, +115

Profits for a $50 bet on the Philadelphia Phillies: (100/140)*50 = $35.71

In addition to your $35.71 profit, you would recover the $50 you wagered. This means that the total payout for a $50 bet on the Phillies, if successful, would be $85.71.

Overview

When choosing the best sportsbook to place your MLB bets, numerous factors need to be considered.

It is critical to ensure that the platform you are planning to wager on is legally authorized to take bets in your state, as this will guarantee the integrity of your funds.

After that, take a look at the variety of betting markets that the sportsbook offers, and determine whether it meets your needs, especially if you are the type of bettor who loves to dive deep into wagers like player props and team props, or if you plan on engaging in a lot of live betting and want to watch the games while you bet.

Also consider the user-friendliness of the interface, the speed of the customer support department, and the ease of deposits and withdrawals.

Welcome bonuses and ongoing promotions–like odds boosts and parlay insurances–are always well-received add-ons that will increase your enjoyment and boost your profits.
