Jalen Smith was born on March 16, 2000, in Portsmouth, Virginia. Standing at 6 feet 9 inches and weighing 215 pounds, Smith was a standout at Mount Saint Joseph High School in Baltimore, Maryland. He quickly made a name for himself, earning a spot in the McDonald's All-American Game. His college career at the University of Maryland saw him average 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in his sophomore year, leading to a Second-Team All-Big Ten selection.
