Kevin Durant Biography Details, Age, Net Worth, and Basketball Career

Kevin Durant was born and grew up in the Washington D.C. area. He played for three different high schools in his basketball career. Between his junior and senior year of high school, Durant grew an estimated five inches. Durant committed to Texas University, where he played just one year, after his junior year of high school.

After dominating in the NCAA, Durant was the second overall pick of the 2007 NBA Draft behind future bust Greg Oden. Durant was the face of the Oklahoma City franchise for eight seasons. After failing to win any NBA Championships, Durant jumped ship to Western Conference powerhouse Golden State to create an All-Star filled team.

Durant went on to win back-to-back NBA titles and NBA Finals MVP Awards. An injury in the 2018 NBA Playoffs stopped the Warriors from winning a third-straight title. Now, Durant is a member of the Brooklyn Nets. However, he spent his first year with the Nets on the sidelines due to the carryover from his Achilles injury.

One of the league’s best all-time scorers, Durant is one of the most popular players in the NBA among fans. Now in his 30’s, Durant is looking to bring a title to Brooklyn once he recovers from his injury.

Durant started his high school career playing basketball at National Christian Academy. After two years, he went to play at Oak Hill Academy. Durant transferred to Montrose Christian School for his senior year.

Durant grew five inches between his junior and senior season. After his senior season, Durant was named the Washington Post All-Met Basketball Player of the Year and the MVP of the 2006 McDonald’s All-American Game.

College Career (Texas)

Durant committed to the University of Texas after his junior year of high school. During his freshman season, Durant averaged 25.8 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Durant led Texas to a 25-10 record and a #4 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Durant was the unanimous player of the year as he won the John R. Wooden Award, the Naismith College Player of the Year Award and all eight other highly recognized honors. Durant was the first freshman to win any of the national player of the year awards.

Durant declared for the NBA Draft after only one season.

NBA Career

Durant was drafted second overall in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics. Greg Oden was drafted first overall by the Portland Trail Blazers, which is considered one of the biggest draft mistakes of the 2000s. Durant joined LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony as the only teenagers in league history to average at least 20 points per game in a whole season during his rookie season. He went on to win the NBA Rookie of the Year Award.

The Seattle SuperSonics relocated to Oklahoma City after Durant’s first NBA season. He would go on to play eight seasons in Oklahoma City. During the 2013-2014 season, Durant won the league MVP award while averaging 32 points, 7.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. He scored 30 or more points in 12 straight games and surpassed Michael Jordan’s record for consecutive games scoring 25 points or more (41).

In 2016, Durant announced his intentions to sign with the Golden State Warriors. On July 7th, Durant officially signed with Golden State on a two-year, $54.3 million contract. The Warriors went on to win back-to-back NBA Championships with Durant winning both NBA Finals MVPs.

Durant was injured in the playoffs of the 2018-2019 season. He attempted to return in Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors but ended up injuring himself further by suffering an Achilles tendon injury. The Warriors ended up losing to the Raptors in the finals to end their quest for a three-peat.

On June 30th, 2019, Durant announced his plans to sign with the Brooklyn Nets. Durant signed with the Nets on July 7th, 2019 in a sign-and-trade deal.
