NBA point guard Temetrius Jamel “Ja” Morant was born on August 10, 1999. He was born in Dalzell, South Carolina. He was born to Tee and Jamie Morant alongside his younger sister, Teniya. Morant trained in his backyard with his father and sister daily, striving to be an NBA player. Morant went on to play for Crestwood High School in Sumter, South Carolina. Going into college, he was not ranked by recruiting services like ESPN. With minimal offers on the table, Morant decided to play for Murray State. After his first two years at Murray State, Morant left Murray State to declare for the 2019 NBA Draft. Ja Morant was selected second overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2019 NBA Draft. He is currently a member of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Ja Morant attended Crestwood High School in Sumter, South Carolina. Following his high school career, Morant left as Crestwood’s all-time leading scorer with 1,679 points. He also set a career-high of 47 points in high school. Throughout his junior and senior years in high school, he averaged 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists per game. The three-time All-Region MVP was ready to enter the college scene but did not receive much recognition.

On January 19, he poured in 40 points and added 11 assists and 5 steals in a win over SIU Edwardsville. He also surpassed the OVC record for single-season assists. He was then named OVC Player of the Year. Morant became the first NCAA player to ever average a minimum of 20 points and 10 assists per game in a season. He did so by averaging 24.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 10 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.
The Memphis Grizzlies selected Ja Morant with the 2nd overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He was selected behind Zion Williamson. Morant officially inked his name with the Grizzlies on July 2, 2019.
