De’Aaron Fox was born on December 20, 1997, to two athletic parents. His father Aaron played college football while his mother Lorainne played college basketball. Fox was highly-regarded as one of the best all-around players in his high school class. After turning down other major D-I offers, Fox elected to attend Kentucky.
After just one season, Fox elected to declare for the 2017 NBA Draft. He was drafted fifth overall by the Sacramento Kings and now in his third season, Fox is the leader of the Kings. One of the best all-around young players in the NBA, Fox is a crucial part of the process of the Kings looking to turn their franchise around.
De’Aaron Fox played his high school basketball at Cypress Lakes High School in Katy, Texas. During his junior season, Fox averaged 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. In his senior season, Fox averaged 32.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
Fox participated in the 2016 McDonald’s All-American Game. He also played in the Jordan Brand Classic and earned Co-MVP honors alongside future Kentucky teammate Malik Monk. Fox also played at the Nike Hoop Summit Games and on the USA Men’s Basketball Junior Team during his high school years.
Fox was considered the nation’s second-best point guard behind Lonzo Ball. He was a top-10 overall rated player according to all major recruiting sites. On November 12, 2015, Fox chose to play his college ball at Kentucky, live on ESPNU, over Kansas, Louisville, and LSU.
Fox recorded a triple-double in a game against Arizona State on November 28th (14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists). Fox was only the second player in Kentucky history to accomplish that feat (Chris Mill in 1988). Leading Kentucky to an SEC Tournament title, Fox ended up winning the SEC Tournament MVP. He also helped lead Kentucky to an Elite Eight appearance before falling to North Carolina.
After his freshman season, Fox announced that he would forgo his final three years of eligibility and enter the 2017 NBA Draft.
Fox was drafted by the Sacramento Kings with the fifth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. Fox averaged 11.6 points, 4.4 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game during his rookie season. Fox replaced Lonzo Ball in the NBA Rising Stars Challenge.
Fox recorded his first career triple-double on November 1, 2018. He scored 31 points and had 10 rebounds and 15 assists. Fox finished second in the NBA Most Improved Player Award, losing to eventual NBA Champion Pascal Siakam.
De’Aaron Fox will earn $6.4 million during the 2019-20 NBA season with a club option for $8.1 million in 2020-2021. Through the 2019-20 season, Fox has earned a career total of $10.1 million.
Fox signed a multi-year deal with Nike prior to the start of his rookie season. The details of the agreement were not disclosed.
