Kelly Oubre was born on December 9, 1995, in New Orleans Louisiana. After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Oubre and his family moved to Richmond, Texas. He began playing high school basketball at George Bush High School. For his senior season, he transferred to Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada.
Oubre played college basketball at Kansas for one season before entering the 2015 NBA Draft. He was selected 15th overall by the Atlanta Hawks before being traded to the Washington Wizards. After three seasons, Oubre was traded to the Phoenix Suns in December of 2018. He signed a two-year $30 million extension with Phoenix in 2019. He suffered a knee injury in February of 2020 that ended his season.
