Devin Booker was born on October 30, 1996, to professional basketball player Melvin Booker and mother Veronica Gutierrez. After starting his high school basketball career in Michigan, Booker moved to Mississippi to live with his father. He played his final three years of high school basketball at Moss Point High School.

Booker elected to play his college basketball at Kentucky. After just one season, mostly coming off of the bench and earning SEC Sixth Man of the Year honors, Booker declared for the 2015 NBA Draft. The Phoenix Suns selected him with the 13th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.

Booker has set a number of Suns’ franchise records and is one of the youngest players in NBA history to score both 1,000 and 3,000 career points. He is also just the sixth player in NBA history to score 70+ points in a game. A perennial scorer, Booker is one of the leaders of a young, up and coming Phoenix Suns’ roster.

High School Career (Moss Point High School)

Devin Booker began playing high school basketball at Grandville High School in Michigan. After his freshman year, he moved to Mississippi with his father and began playing at Moss Point High School. By the end of his junior season, Booker had scholarship offers from a number of major universities. He won the Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year Award during his junior season.

In his senior season, Booker announced his commitment to Kentucky in October.

College Career (Kentucky Wildcats)

In 38 games for Kentucky during his freshman season, Booker averaged 10 points, 2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. Mostly coming off of the bench, Booker earned SEC Sixth Man of the Year honors. He was also named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and the All-SEC Second Team.

After his freshman season, Booker declared for the 2015 NBA Draft on April 9. Deciding to forgo his final three seasons of eligibility, Booker joined six fellow Kentucky teammates who also entered the 2015 NBA Draft (Andrew Harrison, Aaron Harrison, Dakari Johnson, Willie Cauley-Stein, Trey Lyles and Karl-Anthony Towns).

Booker was selected 13th overall by the Phoenix Suns in the 2015 NBA Draft. Booker became the first Suns’ rookie since the 1992-1993 season to record multiple 30+ point games. He became the fourth-youngest player to score 1,000 points in a single season. He earned NBA All-Rookie First Team honors.

During his second season, Booker became the first Suns’ player to score 38+ points in back-to-back games in 28 years. He also became the youngest player in NBA history to score 20+ points in 16 consecutive games. On March 24, he became the sixth player in NBA history to score 70+ points in a single game.

Despite missing some games in his third season due to injury, Booker became the fourth-youngest player in NBA history to score 3,000 points. Injuries plagued his 2018-2019 season as well after undergoing surgery on his hand. He secured his first All-Star season during the 2019-2020 season.
