Evan Mehdi Fournier was born on October 29, 1992 in Saint-Maurice, France. He was born to Meriem and Francois Fournier. Evan is an only child. Evan’s parents used to be Judo athletes, and his mother is actually a Judo teacher to this day. Evan played basketball and Judo as a youngster, but eventually chose the path of basketball for his future. 

Evan Fournier played at INSEP, the National Institute of Sport, Expertise, and Performance in Paris, France for high school. He then began his professional career with one year on JSF Nanterre of the LNB Pro B league. Following his first professional stint, Evan went on to play two years for the Poitiers Basket 86 of the LNB Pro A. In 2012, Fournier was drafted by the Denver Nuggets with the 20th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. He played two seasons for the Nuggets before being traded to the Orlando Magic.

Pro Career (INSEP, JSF Nanterre, Poitiers Basket 86)

Evan Fournier began his basketball career in Paris, France playing high school basketball for INSEP, the National Institute of Sport, Expertise, and Performance. Following high school, Fournier went on to sign a one-year deal with JSF Nanterre of the LNB PRO B league in 2009. After one short year in the Pro B, Evan moved on to Pro A. In 2010, Fournier signed a two-year contract with Poitiers Basket 86 of the LNB Pro A. During his time here, he was named two-time Pro A Rising Star (2011, 2012), two-time Pro A Most Improved Player (2011, 2012), and Pro A All-Star (2012). Fournier then entered the 2012 NBA Draft.

NBA Career

The Denver Nuggets selected Fournier with the 20th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft on June 28, 2012. He officially inked his name with the Nuggets on July 11. Fournier’s NBA career started off slow, as he appeared in just 29 of their first 73 games in his rookie year. He began to earn more time towards the end of the season, appearing in the final nine games of the year and starting in three of them. During that stint to end the year, Fournier scored a season-best 24 points. The following year, the Nuggets extended Fournier for an additional year in his rookie deal. Fournier showed his worth with a 27 point barrage against the Sacramento Kings on February 23, 2014. 

Evan Fournier was then traded to the Orlando Magic on June 26, 2014. This deal involved the draft rights to Devyn Marble along with Fournier in exchange for Arron Afflalo. The Magic immediately extended his rookie deal for a fourth year. Fournier then continued to pour in 28 points against the New York Knicks on November 12, 2014. In the following year, Fournier set a new career-high with 30 points against the New Orleans Pelicans on November 3, 2015. The 2015-16 season was his best year yet in the NBA, as he averaged 15.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. In 2016, the Magic re-signed Fournier to a 5-year, $85 million deal. Evan has continued to provide scoring for the Magic, tying his career-high 32 points in a win over the Golden State Warriors on December 1, 2019.
