The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission can then seek a court injunction if enforcement escalates.

At least five states passed legislation targeting sweepstakes casinos in 2026. Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee signed SB 2136 on May 22, 2026, banning dual-currency gaming platforms. Louisiana signed a racketeering statute targeting sweepstakes operators on May 25, 2026. Iowa is the only 2026 state to pursue enforcement authority over a direct prohibition, per Gambling Insider.

Iowa-based players have approximately 35 days before Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission enforcement takes effect. Sweepstakes platforms operating in Iowa after July 1, 2026 face potential cease-and-desist orders. The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission can also escalate to court injunctions. No Iowa sweepstakes platform has committed to withdrawing access before that deadline.
