Jones ruptured his right Achilles in early December 2025. Jones is not expected back until training camp. Before Richardson returned, Riley Leonard and Seth Henigan ran the Colts offense. Leonard owns just one NFL start. Henigan has zero NFL snaps. Richardson requested a trade in early 2026 after sensing no future in Indianapolis. The Colts granted Richardson permission to shop his services to other teams. No suitor stepped forward. Coach Shane Steichen confirmed Richardson is back and in good spirits. Steichen said both Richardson and Leonard will split backup reps ahead of Jones’s camp return. Richardson enters 2026 on the final year of his rookie contract. Richardson was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Richardson is hoping to follow a reclamation path like Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield. Darnold reset his value with Seattle.
