Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti sent cease-and-desist letters to nearly 40 sweepstakes operators in late 2025. Tennessee Senate Bill 2136 passed both legislative chambers in 2026. Tennessee Senate Bill 2136 went to the governor on May 11, 2026. Tennessee Senate Bill 2136 bans virtual currency sweepstakes gameplay.

The May exits follow a wider pattern of state-level enforcement. Indiana enacted the first 2026 ban with House Bill 1052. California Assembly Bill 831 took effect on January 1, 2026.
