Nikolaj Ehlers was born on February 14, 1996, in Aalborg, Denmark. Standing at 6 feet and weighing 172 pounds, Ehlers began his hockey journey in Switzerland, where he played junior hockey for EHC Biel. His potential was quickly recognized, leading him to join the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL. During his time there, Ehlers showcased his scoring prowess, earning the QMJHL Rookie of the Year award in 2014.
