Victor Wembanyama scored 33 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and blocked 3 shots Sunday night. The San Antonio Spurs dismantled the Oklahoma City Thunder 103-82 in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. San Antonio tied the series at 2-2, erasing Oklahoma City’s one-game series lead.

How Fox’s Return and Wembanyama’s Defense Dismantled OKC’s Offense

San Antonio dominated from the opening tip. The Spurs outscored Oklahoma City 28-19 in the first quarter and extended the lead every period. Wembanyama capped the first half with a viral half-court buzzer beater at the second-quarter horn. Oklahoma City produced one of the worst offensive performances in Thunder playoff history. The Thunder shot just 33.0% from the field and 18.2% from three-point range. Oklahoma City committed 20 turnovers. San Antonio converted those turnovers into 25 points. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished 6-for-15 for 19 points. Oklahoma City’s Alex Caruso played 14 minutes and did not score, finishing 0-for-1 from the floor. Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said the Spurs were simply better. “We didn’t have the sharpness, force or precision necessary to crack them,” Daigneault said. “They were really good defensively.”

De’Aaron Fox’s return reshaped San Antonio’s turnover profile. In Games 1 and 2 without Fox, the Spurs committed 42 combined turnovers. In Games 3 and 4 with Fox starting, the Spurs limited turnovers to 27. That 15-turnover reduction reflects Fox’s floor leadership with a young roster. Head coach Gregg Popovich reportedly challenged the team directly after Game 3’s blowout loss. San Antonio answered with its most complete performance of the series.

Oklahoma City entered Game 4 holding a 2-1 series lead. The Thunder leave with the series tied and the psychological edge reversed. The NBA announced Wembanyama’s unanimous 2026 Defensive Player of the Year award on Saturday. San Antonio’s defense then held Oklahoma City to 33% shooting in Game 4. The Spurs recorded 10 blocks and 11 steals as a team on Sunday night.

Game 5 returns to Oklahoma City. The Thunder need Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to recover his shooting rhythm after a 6-for-15 night. Oklahoma City must also repair the ball-security issues that handed San Antonio 25 turnover points in one game. The Spurs will lean on Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox to sustain the turnover advantage. Both franchises now face a best-of-three finish with no margin for error.
