The Buffalo Sabres eliminated the Boston Bruins with a 4-1 victory in Game 6 at TD Garden on Friday. Buffalo won the series 4-2. The Sabres clinched a playoff series for the first time since 2007.

Alex Tuch, Mattias Samuelsson, Zach Benson and Josh Norris each scored for the Sabres. Buffalo built a two-goal lead in the first period. The Bruins never recovered.

Buffalo Dominates on Boston Ice to Close Series

Tage Thompson and Rasmus Dahlin each recorded two assists for Buffalo. Goaltender Alex Lyon stopped 25 of 26 shots to secure the clincher. The Sabres won all three games played in Boston during this series.

David Pastrnak scored the lone goal for Boston. Jeremy Swayman made 22 saves in the loss. The Bruins managed just one goal against Lyon’s steady presence in net.

Buffalo advances to the Eastern Conference second round. The Sabres will face the winner of the Canadiens and Lightning series. Montreal and Tampa Bay are headed to a Game 7 after Tampa Bay forced overtime on Friday.

The franchise had not won a playoff series since defeating the New York Islanders in 2007. That drought ended Friday in emphatic fashion on the road.
