The 2026 NFL Draft closed Saturday with two storylines from Day 3. Garrett Nussmeier slid to the Kansas City Chiefs at pick No. 249. The Denver Broncos selected Buffalo linebacker Red Murdock with the final pick at No. 257. Murdock earned the Mr. Irrelevant title as the 257th overall selection.

Garrett Nussmeier played quarterback at LSU during the 2025 college football season. The Kansas City Chiefs took Nussmeier with the 249th overall pick in the seventh round. Nussmeier was the 10th quarterback selected in the 2026 NFL Draft. Pre-draft projections placed Nussmeier in the top half of the draft. Reports cited medical concerns as the reason for the slide.

Red Murdock played linebacker for the University at Buffalo Bulls in 2025. Murdock started 12 games and posted 13.5 tackles for loss for Buffalo. Murdock set an NCAA record with 17 career forced fumbles. Murdock’s 17 forced fumbles broke the previous record of 16 held by Khalil Mack. Khalil Mack also played at the University at Buffalo before reaching the NFL with the Chargers.

Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft covered Rounds 4 through 7 on Saturday. The Las Vegas Raiders opened Day 3 by selecting Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy at No. 101. McCoy missed all of 2025 with an ACL injury suffered in January. Mr. Irrelevant Week, founded in 1976 by Paul Salata, will honor Murdock in Newport Beach.
