Tyler Benson was born on March 15, 1998, in Edmonton, Alberta. Standing at 6 feet and weighing 190 pounds, Benson began his hockey career with the South Side Athletic Club in Edmonton. His early promise was evident when he was selected first overall in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft by the Vancouver Giants. Benson's junior career was marked by strong offensive production, culminating in a standout 2015-16 season where he notched 28 goals and 39 assists in 58 games.
