Derrick Pouliot was born on January 16, 1994, in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Canada. Standing at 6 feet and weighing 196 pounds, Pouliot began his hockey journey with the Portland Winterhawks in the WHL. His impressive play quickly caught the attention of NHL scouts, leading to his selection as the 8th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
