MLB injuries are mounting across the league this May, hitting starting rotations and lineup depth at the same time. Matthew Boyd of the Chicago Cubs is out roughly six weeks after meniscus surgery. Roman Anthony of the Boston Red Sox landed on the 10-day injured list with a wrist injury.

Pitching Takes the Hardest Hit Across Six Rosters

The Kansas City Royals absorbed a double blow to their pitching staff this week. Cole Ragans left his May 6 start after three innings with a valgus extension overload in the left elbow. Carlos Estévez was removed from a Triple-A Omaha rehab appearance with a rotator cuff strain.

Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers is set to begin a rehab assignment Friday. Betts has missed time with an oblique injury but the Dodgers have kept winning in the meantime. Jasson Dominguez of the New York Yankees crashed into the outfield wall while making a catch and exited the game.

The Chicago Cubs placed Boyd on the injured list on May 6. The Royals’ Ragans and Estévez join Carlos Correa, who underwent season-ending ankle surgery this week. The overall injury toll leaves multiple playoff contenders reassessing roster depth heading into the second month of the 2026 season.
