Ducks Eliminate Oilers 5 2 Game 6 Nhl Playoffs Hero

The Ducks eliminated the Oilers with a dominant 5-2 victory in Game 6 at Honda Center on Thursday night. Anaheim advanced in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2017. That prior series also ended Edmonton’s season in the second round.

Carlsson, Terry, Kreider Power Anaheim Past Edmonton

Leo Carlsson finished Game 6 with one goal and two assists for the Ducks. Troy Terry matched that output with a goal and two assists. Chris Kreider, who turned 35 on game day, recorded one goal and two assists as well.

Cutter Gauthier added a power play goal and an assist. Lukas Dostal stopped 25 of 27 shots in net for Anaheim. The Ducks went 8 for 16 on the power play across the six game series. Anaheim scored on the man advantage in 10 straight games dating to the regular season.

Connor McDavid led the NHL with 138 points during the regular season. McDavid finished this series with six points (one goal, five assists). McDavid was held scoreless in three of the six games. Leon Draisaitl led Edmonton with 10 points (three goals, seven assists).

Anaheim scored three goals in the opening period to take control. John Carlson’s slap shot deflected off Jake Walman and Ryan Poehling for a 1-0 lead at 9:56. Kreider buried a one timer at 13:43 to make it 2-0. Gauthier’s power play tally at 16:50 pushed the lead to 3-1.

Troy Terry and Leo Carlsson combined on a 2 on 1 rush late in the second period. That goal made it 4-1 with 47 seconds remaining. Jackson LaCombe posted nine points (one goal, eight assists) across the series for Anaheim. LaCombe fell one point shy of the franchise record.

The Ducks will face the Vegas Golden Knights or Utah Mammoth in the second round. Vegas leads that first round series 3-2 with Game 6 on Friday.
