Cade Horton faces 15 to 16 months of rehab before returning to the mound. Horton, age 24, last pitched for Chicago on April 3, 2026. Horton exited the April 3 start against the Cleveland Guardians after one-plus inning and 17 pitches. Chicago placed Horton on the 15-day injured list on April 5. The Thursday surgery repaired the UCL in Horton’s right elbow. Horton had his first Tommy John procedure in 2021 while in college. The Cubs rotation already carried one pitcher injury. Cubs closer Daniel Palencia is on the 15-day IL with a left oblique strain. Chicago now loses Horton through the 2026 season and most of 2027.
