76ers Stun Celtics Game 7 3 1 Comeback Hero

The Philadelphia 76ers beat the Boston Celtics 109-100 in Game 7 at TD Garden on Saturday. Philadelphia became just the 14th team in NBA history to overcome a 3-1 series deficit. The 76ers advance to face the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Embiid and Maxey Overpower Shorthanded Celtics

Joel Embiid led Philadelphia with 34 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists. Tyrese Maxey added 30 points on 11-for-18 shooting. Maxey also grabbed 11 rebounds and dished seven assists. The pair joined elite company. Only two other duos have each posted 25 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in a Game 7.

Rookie VJ Edgecombe scored 23 points on 8-for-17 shooting. Edgecombe drilled five of 11 three-point attempts. The 76ers built an 18-point second-half lead before the Celtics cut the margin to one with under four minutes left.

Maxey broke the tension in the final two minutes. Maxey used a ball screen to beat Neemias Queta for a reverse layup that pushed the lead to three. On the next possession, Maxey attacked again off a hand-off from Kelly Oubre Jr. Those back-to-back buckets sealed the victory for Philadelphia.

Boston played without Jayson Tatum due to left knee stiffness. Jaylen Brown scored 33 points for the Celtics. Derrick White added 26 points. Head coach Joe Mazzulla started three bench players who logged limited minutes across Games 1 through 6. That lineup gamble produced a scoreless start across Boston’s first six possessions.
