Alex Goligoski was born on July 30, 1985, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Standing at 5'11" and weighing 185 pounds, Goligoski developed his skills at the University of Minnesota, where he played for the Golden Gophers. Drafted 61st overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, he began his professional career in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins before making his NHL debut in the 2007-08 season.
