In a statement from the team confirming the hire, owner Shad Khan said "it's a great day for .. Jaguars fans everywhere. Urban Meyer is who we want and need, a leader, winner and champion who demands excellence and produces roles. ... I am proud to name Urban Mayer the new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars."
The Jaguars were our second most-attractive head-coaching opening in the league.
Meyer becomes the latest successful college coach to make the leap to the NFL. Meyer has had success at every program he's led, including leading the Florida Gators and Ohio State to national championships. He left both positions due to health problems.
Meyer has a career record of 187-32 as a college football head coach.
The creative coach, who was most recently a college football analyst for Fox, surely made the jump to the pros because he covets coaching projected No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence.
He'll now get his chance to Lawrence as the Jaguars are on the clock.
