Steelers GM Noncommittal on Ben Roethlisberger Return: 'We Have to Look at This Situation'

Time could be running out on the Big Ben era in Pittsburgh.

In a meeting with reporters Wednesday, Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert didn't inspire much confidence that Ben Roethlisberger would return as the franchise's starting quarterback in 2021.

Colbert told reporters that Roethlisberger wants to return to the Steelers next season, but they told him that "we have to look at this current situation."

The 38-year-old quarterback, who has spent his entire career in Pittsburgh, is set to have a massive $41.25 million cap hit in 2021 if the team doesn't cut or restructure Roethlisberger's deal.

The Steelers are currently more than $30 million over the projected $180.5 million salary cap.

"As we sit here today," Colbert said. "Ben is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers."

That's not exactly a vote of confidence.
