Rams' Jared Goff Breaks Right Thumb in Loss to Seahawks

UPDATE: Goff has successful surgery on his thumb and will be out for Week 17 against the Cardinals. John Wolford will start in his place.

The Rams' season is on the line in Week 17, and Los Angeles might be missing their starting quarterback.

Jared Goff broke his right thumb in the Rams' 20-9 loss to the Seahawks, according to NFL Media.

It's unlikely that the former No. 1 overall pick will be able to play in the team's pivotal final game of the season against the Arizona Cardinals. Goff will need to have offseason surgery to completely fix the injury.

John Wolford, a second-year undrafted passer out of Wake Forest, is the Rams' backup quarterback. He has yet to throw a pass in an NFL game.

While Goff has had an up-and-down season, if he misses time, it would be a devastating loss to a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

The Rams are currently in second place in the NFC West at 9-6.
