Beamer Ball is coming to Columbia.
South Carolina announced Sunday that former assistant coach Shane Beamer will be the Gamecocks' new head football coach.
Beamer will replace Will Muschamp, who went 2-5 in the 2020 campaign before he was fired.
Beamer, who worked as an assistant coach under Steve Spurrier from 2007 to 2010, is the son of longtime Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer.
"I believe that Shane Beamer is the perfect fit to be the head football coach at the University of South Carolina," South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner said in a press release. "He has worked under some of the greatest coaches in college football and has taken those lessons to become one of the bright, young minds in the game. I believe Shane's energy, enthusiasm, commitment and fondness for our school and program will be met favorably by our student-athletes, staff and fans."
This is Beamer's first head coaching job after being an assistant coach since 2004 with stops at Georgia, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech and Mississippi State.
Beamer replaces Muschamp who went 28-30 in nearly five seasons with the Gamecocks.
