Tyler Herro Biography Details, Age, Net Worth, and Basketball Career

Tyler Herro is an American basketball player who currently plays shooting guard for the Miami Heat. He was born on January 20, 2000, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and grew up in the suburbs around Milwaukee. After a standout high school career, Herro played one season of college basketball at Kentucky under head coach John Calipari. He helped the Wildcats to a 30-7 record and a trip to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.

After one year of college, the Miami Heat selected Herro 13th overall in the 2019 NBA Draft. He was considered by many to be the best shooter available in the draft. Herro made his NBA debut in Miami’s season opener, amassing 14 points and eight rebounds in 34 minutes after getting the start.

After an impressive debut, Herro continued to establish himself as one of the best rookies in the NBA until suffering an injury that kept him out for most of February and early March. Herro only played in one game after the injury before the NBA season was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic. At that time, Herro was averaging 12.9 points and four rebounds per game over 47 games played.

However, he later backed out of his verbal commitment, much to the dismay of fans in his home state, and decided to play at Kentucky under head coach John Calipari. As a freshman, he was the only player to start every game for Kentucky. Herro averaged 14 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, including a career-high 29 points in a win over Arkansas. He helped Kentucky reach the Elite Eight and was named SEC Rookie of the Year.

NBA Career

Herro left Kentucky and declared for the NBA Draft after one season of college basketball. He was selected 13th overall by the Miami Heat in the 2019 NBA Draft. He was in the starting lineup for Miami’s season opener, scoring 14 points and eight rebounds. Herro was making a strong case for Rookie of the Year honors when he suffered a sprained ankle on February 3 that kept him sidelined for more than a month.

Herro was healthy enough to return from the injury on March 11. However, he scored just two points in seven minutes of action. It was also the last game he played before the NBA season was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic. At the time the season was suspended, Herro had played in 47 games for the Heat, including six starts. He was averaging 12.9 points and four rebounds per game.
