Trae Young Biography Details, Age, Net Worth, and Basketball Career

Trae Young was born in Lubbock, Texas on September 19th, 1998. The son of a Texas Tech basketball player, athletic genes run in the Young family. Despite being born in Lubbock, Young called Norman, Oklahoma home, which is where he played his high school ball. Young elected to play his college ball for his hometown Oklahoma Sooners. 

After just two years at Oklahoma, Young was drafted fifth overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018 NBA Draft. The Mavericks traded Young to the Atlanta Hawks as part of the Luka Doncic deal.

High School Career (North Norman)

During his sophomore season in high school, Young averaged 25 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds per game as he helped lead Norman North to the 2015 area championship (which they won) and he was named Oklahoma's Sophomore of the Year.

Young was a five-star recruit out of high school.

College Career (Oklahoma)

Young committed to Oklahoma on February 16th, 2017. He started his college career off with a double-double in his first game. He followed that up with a second double-double in his very next game. In the biggest game of his college career up to that point, Young scored 43 points against Oregon in a 90-80 victory. Young managed to tie the all-time NCAA single-game assists record with 22.

Young increased his draft stock throughout the season, eventually landing him in the lottery pick discussion. He finished his freshman season leading the country in assists (271) and points (848). His 848 points were a Big 12 freshman record as well. After Oklahoma’s elimination in the NCAA March Madness tournament, Young announced his decision to declare for the 2018 NBA Draft.

NBA Career

Despite being drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018 NBA Draft, Young has spent his entire NBA career playing for the Atlanta Hawks. He was drafted fifth overall by the Mavericks but was immediately traded to the Hawks for the rights to their third overall draft pick, Luka Doncic. 

In his short NBA career, Young was an NBA All-Rookie First Team member. The following year, in 2020, Young earned his first career All-Star appearance.
