Buddy Hield is a Bahamian NBA player who currently plays for the Sacramento Kings. He was born on December 17, 1992. Hield has a total of eight siblings. After starting his basketball career in the Bahamas, he moved to Kansas during his high school years. Hield turned down an offer from Kansas to play at Oklahoma.

After playing four years in college, Hield was drafted sixth overall by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2016 NBA Draft. Hield was traded to the Sacramento Kings at the 2017 trade deadline. Hield is a three-point sharpshooter who owns the Sacramento franchise record for made three-pointers in a single season and also owns the NBA record for most three-pointers in a player’s first three seasons.

Buddy Hield High School Career (Sunrise Christian Academy)

Hield originally attended Jack Hayward High School in the Bahamas. He led them to a championship of the Providence Holiday Tournament and was named an All Bahamian Brand All Bahamian Selection. His performances in the Bahamas he was recruited to play at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, which is a suburb of Wichita.

In 2011, which was Hield’s junior year, he led Sunrise Christian to the National Association of Christian Athletes national championship and was MVP of the tournament. In his senior year, Hield averaged 22.7 points.

Buddy Hield College Career (Oklahoma Sooners)

Highly recruited out of high school, Hield elected to attend Oklahoma over Kansas. After averaging 7.8 points per game his freshman season, Hield upped that average to 16.5 during his sophomore season, earning second-team All-Big 12 selection.

During his junior season, Hield averaged 17.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Hield helped lead Oklahoma to a Sweet 16 appearance. Hield elected to return for his senior season. He won the John R. Wooden Award following his senior season, in which he averaged 25 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He also led the nation in three-point shots.

Hield was selected sixth overall by the New Orleans Pelicans in the 2016 NBA Draft. Hield won the Western Conference Rookie of the Month in December. On February 20, 2017, Hield was traded to the Sacramento Kings, along with Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway and 2017 first and second-round picks, in exchange for Omri Casspi and DeMarcus Cousins.

During the 2017-2018 season, Hield shot 43.1 percent from three-point range, good for ninth-best in the league that year. During the 2018-2019 NBA season, Hield broke Peja Stojakovic’s record for most three-pointers in a season in franchise history. He also surpassed Damian Lillard’s NBA record (599) for most three-pointers in a player’s first three seasons.

On February 15th, 2020, Hield won the NBA Three-Point Contest during All-Star Weekend.
