Knicks Acquire Derrick Rose from Pistons

New York Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau is getting the band back together. Well, sort of.

The Knicks on Monday announced that they have acquired former MVP, Derrick Rose, from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Dennis Smith Jr. and a 2021 second-round pick (via the Hornets).

It's a no-brainer for the Pistons who will get an extended look at Smith, a former lottery selection, and a pick that should be in the 30s or 40s.

The Knicks have one of the biggest rookie surprises in the league with Immanuel Quickley emerging, but the Rose acquisition could stunt his development if he doesn't get more minutes.

Rose, 32, is averaging 14.2 points and 4.2 assists through 15 games in the 2020-21 campaign.
