It's been a season from hell for Oladipo, who was traded from the Pacers to the bottom-dwelling Houston Rockets before landing in Miami at the trade deadline. His Heat tenure for this season lasted just four games when he initially hurt his quad after finishing a slam dunk against the Lakers on April 8.
This is the same injury that torpedoed Oladipo's campaign in 2019 and caused him to collectively miss over a season.
Oladipo was never able to find his footing in Miami, where he averaged 12 points on 37% from the field. It's a shame, considering he was a much different player earlier in the season for the Pacers, where he averaged 20 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists in nine games.
For Miami, they're lucky they didn't give up a bounty for Oladipo's services, although Kelly Olynyk has been balling out in Houston. On the bright side, Tyler Herro is finally rediscovering his groove and has averaged 19.4 points on 65% from three-point range over his last five outings. If Herro keeps this up, it would be unwise to count out Miami.
For Oladipo, another long recovery process awaits, and to complicate matters, he's set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. Oladipo does most of his offseason work in Miami anyway, so it might make sense for both parties if he re-signs on a cheap, one-year deal to attempt to rehabilitate his value.
