No. 3 Duke Blue Devils vs. Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview

A- A A+

The total for this game is posted at 129.

Virginia has 19 wins and they have been solid in ACC play at 9-5 and they could really spruce up their Big Dance resume with a win over 3rd ranked Duke tonight. However, the Blue Devils have owned the Cavaliers in the last several seasons winning 17 of their last 18 games against them and in 5 of their last 6 games facing them they have won by double digits.

Duke has won their last 2 games and 8 of their last 9, but they are only 4-3 on the road this season. On top of that Virginia has won 15 straight at home and only have 1 loss on their floor and that was in the very beginning of the season.

In their last games Duke crushed Boston College 89-68 and Virginia had no problems in their 82-54 thrashing of Georgia Tech.

Virginia has been the better betting team this season at 16-7-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 10-6 and Duke is at 15-12 ATS with an Over/Under record of 14-12.

While Virginia is a solid 16-1 at home on the season they only have 1 win over a ranked team there and overall they are 1-2 facing teams ranked in the top 25.

Duke has the 8th highest scoring team in the nation and they are very deep. 6'10" FW F Mason Plumlee (17.5 ppg 10.7 rpg) has 16 double doubles this season and sharpshooter G Seth Curry (16.8 ppg) is shooting 43.7% from beyond the 3-point arc.

Curry's backcourt mate in G Rasheed Sulaimon (12.4 ppg) scored 27 points in the easy win over Boston College and he is averaging 22 ppg and is shooting over 65% from the field in his last 2 games.

Virginia only ranks 236th in the nation in scoring averaging 65 ppg, but in their last 6 games, which they have won 4, their offense is playing well averaging 74 ppg.

If Duke's defense can contain G Joe Harris (16.6 ppg) and FW Akil Mitchell (12.6 ppg 8.7 rpg) they should be in good shape, as no other Cavaliers player is averaging over 8 ppg. Harris is averaging nearly 21 ppg in his last 9 games and he has to play well tonight. 6'8" Mitchell is the team's leading rebounder and the 6'6" Harris ranks 2nd and with their lack of size the Cavs need to body up on the bigger Plumlee and not let him dominate the glass.

Duke at Virginia Betting Trends

Duke is only 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games and in their last 6 games facing a team that has a winning record the posted total has gone Under.

Virginia is a solid 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 home games and in their last 7 games overall the posted total has gone Over 6 times.

Duke has covered the spread in 5 of their last 6 games at Virginia.

Bus Man's Pick: Can't believe Duke is the underdog tonight and with all of their scoring options they will win this game even on the road.
