Injuries and their Effect on Lines

Injuries are a factor in any sport and hockey is no different. You have to see if players are injured, especially the key players. Checking on goalies, key defensemen, and key scorers who may be out of a game is an important task before you bet on a team.

If a key defensemen is out with an injury and that team is playing one with a great offense then you may want to use caution when wagering on that team. Another example would be a scoring leader out with an injury facing a team that has a good defense. Check the injuries to the players and how important they are to the team in their match up with another one. With all the information on the NHL at Lines you can even see how a team has done without a key injured player in the past.

Reading the NHL Injury Report

It’s important to know how to read an NHL injury report before betting on a game. At Lines, we provide the latest, up-to-date injury reports and in the report you will see the list of NHL teams, player’s position, the date they were injured, their status for the next game, and the injury sustained. If a player is out they will not play, doubtful means they will likely not play, “?” or questionable means there is a 50/50 chance they will play, and probable means they should be on the ice. Even if a player is questionable or probable you should keep in mind that they are still injured and may not be 100% even when they are in the game.

It is important to look at the injury report for both teams and analyze how player absence will affect the team. The more you know about the injury report and who may or may not play, the more you can get a feel of how that team will do without key players. Understand that sportsbooks set lines with injuries in mind, but you can still gain an edge by keeping up-to-date with the injury reports.

Additional Information

Making a smart NHL bet means arming yourself with as much information is possible on the game you are looking to lay green on. Lines gives you all the information you need when handicapping an NHL game. Besides injuries, Lines has information on NHL Odds, Matchups, Scores, Standings, Headlines, Goalies, Schedules, Trends, Team Stats, Team List, and Betting Previews.
