Belisario acknowledges positive cocaine test
February 22, 2012GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Ronald Belisario says a positive test for cocaine was the reason he remained in Venezuela and didn't play in the majors last season.
Belisario said Wednesday that he only tried cocaine once, but doesn't remember when he used it or tested positive.
The Venezuelan right-hander also said he entered a drug rehabilitation program in 2010, though not for cocaine. He didn't specify why he was in the treatment program.
Belisario was placed on the restricted list last season and had visa issues that kept him in Venezuela.
He will serve a 25-game drug suspension this season for failing to comply with baseball's joint drug agreement, which appears to be for violating his treatment program.
